Iida, Finkelstein continue winning ways in Junior Golf play

Saki Iida of Gilbert followed her seventh-place finish at the June 22 U.S. Girls Junior Championship Qualifier with a first-place win in last week's Junior Girls State Championship, and Chandler's Dana Finkelstein picked up a third-place finish at the Qualifier and a second place at the State Championship, a stroke off Iida's 146 total.
The reigning girls champion from last year's State Championship, Sun Gyoung Park, did not participate in this year's event, held at Superstition Mountain Golf & Country Club.
On the boys' side, two-time defending champion in the Junior Boys State Championship, Nicholas Losole III of Scottsdale, had to settle for a fifth-place finish this year. He was coming off a third-place win at the June 24-25 Thunderbird Junior Classic. Kyle Jones, who won the Tbird Classic, finished in a tie for 10th in the State Championship.
The winner this of this year's State Championship, with a 138 total, was Kevin Parkhurst of Vail, AZ. Runner-up was James Ardell of Scottsdale, finshing at 141.
