After the various first-team and second-team football selections have
been made, it’s time for the Arizona Football Coaches Association to select its “Big 25″ team. And this year, a couple of schools picked up the lion’s share of selections.
Marcos de Niza HS placed a trio of players on the Big 25, as did Hamilton HS. But it was Chandler High School’s Brett Hundley that got the nod at quarterback and the back field was filled by Ka’deem Carey of Canyon del Oro HS and Davon Jones from Mountain Pointe HS.
Hundley was just one of many signal-callers putting up big numbers this year, but his were pretty gaudy: 1,575 yards passing, 16 touchdowns, and a .629 completion mark. Carey and Jones were both reliable workhorses who carried the load for their respective schools. Carey
piled up 2,738 yards on 224 carries and Jones carried the ball 259 times for 1,791 yards.
Rounding out the remainder of the selections: Wide receiver -Justin Rodriguez (Marcos de Niza HS); Tight end – Ricky Astrain (McClintock HS); Offensive line – Patrick Blanar (Cactus HS), Christian Westerman (Hamilton HS), Tyeler Davison (Desert Mountian HS), Roy Garcia (Marcos de Niza), Brennen Bowen (Westview HS); Kicker – Marshall Dirksen (McClintock HS); Returner – Jacom Brimhall (Mountain View HS); Defensive line: Tevin Hood (Hamilton HS)Ammon Samia (Chandler HS), Dylan Lusk (Centennial HS), Cy Maughmer (Apache Junction HS); Defensive backfield – Jared Tevis (Canyon del Oro HS), Devon Carrington (Hamilton HS), Chris Howard (Sunnyside HS), Garrett Anderson (St. Johns HS); Linebacker – Ramon Abreu (Marcos de Niza HS), Eric Ramsey (Westview HS), Nate Scola (Apache Junction HS); Punter – Jordan Morgan (Valley Christian HS).
