Local swimmers give depth to GCU program

A handful of local high school grads are taking a prominent role in the success of Grand Canyon University’s swim team.

The GCU women’s swim team has moved up to No. 12 in the latest CollegeSwimming.com rankings, thanks to an impressive win over No. 25 Mesa State and Pacific.  The Antelopes won 13 of 14 events in the three-way meet, defeating Mesa State, 177-85, and Pacific, 210-20.

Sophomore Caiti Hoffman, a graduate of Gilbert HS, won the 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke, and 400 IM.   Senior Alexis Glessner, from Red Mountain HS, added wins in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle.

Individual wins went to Tori Heron (Sandra Day O’Connor HS),  Riley Smith (Phoenix Christian), and Brooke Bellah (Phoenix Christian).
