Lumberjacks drop basketball opener after cold first half

Shoot 26 percent from the field in any basketball game and don’t expect good things to come from it.

Northern Arizona University wasn’t able to overcome 26 percent shooting in the first half, and the result was a loss in its Big Sky home opener to Northern Colorado.  The Lumberjacks canned their first two shots of the game and then went cold and were able to add just two more before the half.

Just after the half, the Lumberjacks pulled to within three points, but then Northern Colorado, ranked No. 19 in the Collegeinsider. com Mid Major poll, took control and rolled to a 75-66 win.

Senior Nick Larson scored 20 points in the losing effort, Cameron Jones had 15 points, and Eric Platt chipped in 13.

NAU (6-8, 0-3) continues conference play this week, with Idaho State up next on Thursday.
