Three ASU golfers picked as best of the decade

In a climate that allows for year-round golf, Arizona State has been blessed with nature’s assist in its recruiting efforts.  So it’s not too surprised that the Sun Devils placed three of its best golfers on an All Decade Team.

Alejandro Canizares, Azahara Munoz, and Niklas Lemke have been recognized as being among the best during the first 10 years of the new millenium.

Munoz, a recent ASU graduate, was named one of the decade’s top 10 women’s collegiate golfers by Golf World’s Ryan Herrington.  She became the university’s ninth women’s golf NCAA champion in 2008 and was a four-time All American.

Canizares was named one of the top 25 players of the 2000s by Golfweek’s Ron Balicki.  He won the 2003 NCAA championship in his freshman year and was also a four-time All American.  Balicki also included Lemke as an honorable mention, recognizing the three-time All American for his senior year when he finished with a 70.03 stroke average, the third-best in ASU history.
