ASU divers deliver at Pac-10 Championships

ASU’s diving team got off to an impressive start at the Pac-10 Championships in Washington.

The men’s 3-meter diving crown seems to have found a semi-permanent home at Arizona State University.  For the eighth consecutive year, a Sun Devil has won the 3-meter conference championship.

And it was a sophomore who won the title at yesterday’s first day of the Pac-10 Diving Championships, so the next couple of years are looking pretty good, too.

Constantin Blaha won the gold and was part of a nearly clean sweep of the top three spots on the winner’s podium. The 2008 Austrian Olympian racked up 435.5 points, winning the competition by over 45 points.

ASU junior, Cameron Bradshaw, jumped all the way from his seventh-place finish in the preliminaries to win the silver with 389.85 points, and teammate Riley McCormick, took fourth place.  McCormick, a 2008 Canadian Olympian, scored 381.20, less than a point away from the bronze and an ASU sweep.

In the women’s competition, ASU picked up a bronze in the 1-meter competition as sophomore Elina Eggers earned third place in just her first appearance at the Pac-10 Championships.  Eggers, a 2008 Olympic finalist on the 10m platform, scored 311.10 and move up one spot from her finish in the preliminaries.

The men and women are flipping events today, with the women performing on the 3-meter boards and the men on the 1-meter.
